Leading manufacturers of technical insulation materials made of foam plastics have agreed quality requirements for their products, leading to the introduction of the CE mark in the European markets. Characteristic for the CE mark is the strict monitoring of the quality and testing regulations, what leads to maintaining a similar high quality for all the CE marked products. Hira Ind. LLC is the first insulation company from Middle East which complies with the new legal requirement.
CE marking is a passport for the product used for the whole European Economic Area (EEA) and, by definition, it covers all legal requirements prevailing in all member states. When the CE mark is applied to a product and/or accompanying documents, it indicates conformity with the harmonized part of the European Standard (EN) or European Technical Approval Guideline (ETAG). This means that the product can be traded all over the European Union, but it is necessary to check whether the product fulfils the requirements in the place of use.
Background of the CE mark
The CE mark concept was introduced in May 1985 by the European Union to standardize the technical legal specifications of the European countries. The Construction Products Directive (89/106/EEC) was subsequently founded in order to set the legal basis for the introduction of the CE mark. The six essential requirements of the directive above are:
- Mechanical resistance and stability
- Safety in case of fire
- Hygiene, health and the environment
- Safety in use
- Protection against noise
- Energy economy and heat retention
These essential requirements have been translated into characteristics for construction products in harmonized technical specifications. The tested characteristics for the foam plastic insulations are the following:
- Fire behavior
- Dimensions and tolerances
- Thermal conductivity
- Dimensional stability
- Durability characteristics
Hira Ind. LLC – first insulation manufacturer from the Middle East to get the CE mark
Hira Industries LLC recently got the CE mark for its insulation range called AEROFOAM®. The company invested heavily in 2011 in a new factory for closed cell foam insulation and began its exports to Europe in 2012. Starting 2013 it became forbidden to sell non CE marked insulation materials to any country from the EU. In order to develop the Aerofoam® brand further on the European continent, Hira Ind. LLC obtained the CE mark for Aerofoam® in April 2013, assuring this way a smooth transition to the new legal environment and keeping its long term commitment to the European distributors. Hira Ind. LLC has further investment plans in certificates required by the European countries, assuring this way a healthy development path in a market with a big potential.
